10 of Our Favorite Over-the-Top Wedding Ideas

Liam Beliveau

Here’s the truth about over-the-top weddings: It takes more than just an unlimited wedding budget to really pull off something different and amazing. The secret? A great team and lots of creative licenses. From gardens of flowers festooned across your tables to the most inventive cuisine – your wedding team will make or break your big day.

1. Hanging Flowers 2016-12-17 Forever Events Decor-Ceremony-WEB (3 of 28)

Not that you need to justify beautifying your reception area with flowers, but adding hanging flowers to a dance floor, or a chuppah can add a luxurious, fairytale element to any wedding. Check out these hanging flowers from a recent Forever Events luxury wedding.

2. A Draped Checkerboard Ceiling

This modern draped ceiling, by designer and planner Tara Guerard, takes the black-and-white checkerboard dance floor and literally turns it around for a totally unexpected look. The draped ceiling adds a fun twist to the other elegant details, like the navy and white color palette, comfy living-room-style seating and damask print details.

3. Go for the Red Drapes

There’s nothing like red for drama. Go big with red at your wedding and drape red everywhere. It helps if you are in a large enough space to make the most of the red displays.

4. Go for a no-ceiling tent.

Sometimes the best décor is mother nature herself – so skip the ceiling and bring nature’s most elegant vistas – like a starry night – inside. Experiment with leaving parts of the tent covered to bring more intimacy to your event.

5. A Rose Petal Cannon

Nothing like celebrating with a burst of petals – just switch up the classic paper confetti with more polished rose petals. Add surprise for your guests and cap off your “I Dos” with a bang.

6. Hanging Framed Mirrors

Maximize the sparkle at your reception by hanging these reflective gems from the ceiling of your ceremony. With a few fresh pink flowers, the silver-framed mirrors added depth to the pinked-out space and made a creative alternative to chandeliers to add sparkle to the ceiling.

7. An All-White Curtained Ceremony Entrance

David Beahm set the tone for a dramatic ceremony with a stunning all-white curtained entrance. Beyond the curtain, beautiful large white flower arrangements and dramatic lighting gave the room at The Pierre Hotel in NYC. “Lightning brings out the drama in everything,” Beahm says.

It’s one thing to create a beautiful reception, but it’s another to make it look as natural and effortless as this greenery. Surprise your guests with this natural feat.

9. Hanging Lightbulbs

This can add a unique touch to any wedding ceremony. Check out these awesome hanging lights from a recent Forever Events wedding.

10. Projectors

There are so many ways to use lighting creatively. Projecting decorative images throughout a venue immediately gives and event more life. These floral projections at a Forever events wedding added an extra touch of romance and texture at this nighttime ceremony.
